On Friday we went to Will & Eliza's after Tom's evening class - he's having a tough time in Logic, as the other students seem to be extremely stupid. The teacher lets them out about an hour early on average, cutting their class time down from 3 hours to 2 per week (not good!), and Tom gets the impression that it's because the teacher suspects other students would not be able to handle the whole three hours of lesson. Ridiculous that the teacher requested that 3 hour slot if he's never going to use it!
Anyway, Friday was our first experience of Taco Bell (I had a cheesy potato burrito - which was more meaty and sour-creamy than cheesy or potato-y, although it was still good - and Tom had a huge meal of two tacos, a burrito, cinnamon twists and a drink, and loved it). The evening ended badly when we realized that we'd missed the last bus, and had to walk the two miles back from Makiki to Waikiki at 1.30am. A cockroach touched my toe =( It was okay, and we were both pretty sober, but no one else in the city was - so many people stumbled past us to vomit in the street, it was gross!
On Saturday it was Hallowe'en! We'd begun shopping the day before: in Ross's (kind of like T.K. Maxx but less scary) Tom decided he was going to be a ghost pirate, and needed a waistcoat. The one he found he fell in love with - $98 down to $13, which made us very happy! - to the extent that he refused do the 'ghost' part of the costume as it would have involved talcum powder and waistcoat-ruining!
Eliza and Will came over - just to shake things up! - and I accidentally hosted and cooked for my first dinner party =P I offered to cook for them (potatoes stuffed with cheesy oniony peppery mash, and beans), and realized as we sat down that oh-my-god I'd just cooked for other people! Without stressing about poisoning them or anything!
I was Little Red Riding Hood for Hallowe'en, and although quite a few other women were too, their costumes were all store-bought - mine was home-made, and therefore better! =) After dinner and lots of photo-taking, we went out into Waikiki, which was amazingly crowded. It was kind of like a parade, with everyone walking slowly up and down to show off their outfits. It took us two hours to do a ten minute walk! There was some fabulous costumes - a guy in bed, a McDonalds fries, Chippendales (dancing round a preaching rabbi, thank god the rabbi had a sense of humour!), a flamingo, and so on and so on.
So that was Saturday.
Sunday we went over to Eliza and Will's again (that seems to have been a motif this weekend...) and watched Zombieland, which was completely immature and pretty funny. This time we didn't miss the bus home =) Other than that, we did little - I went to campus and tried to work, Tom decided to attend a Honolulu administration conference thingy - ooooh! We roasted pork! We bought a $4, 2.5lb pork butt the day before, and roasted it for about four hours, and had it with mash and veg and onion gravy, and it was YUMMY. The meat just fell apart. It was SO good, and so cheap. Mmmmmmm.
Yesterday I missed my Sex class for the very first time - I was so tired after the weekend that I just slept through my alarm. We went into campus to do some work before our evening classes, and Tom had a fairly normal class (he didn't say much about it...), and I watched The Importance of Being Earnest! It was great fun.
Today Tom is going to this administrative conference thingy - I'm not quite sure what it is, unfortunately. He has to go to a public meeting or trial or something for his State & Local Government course, and write a paper on it, so I won't see much of him today or tomorrow. I hope he finds it interesting, although he wasn't too optimistic. I was hoping we could go to the Academy of Arts tomorrow as it has free admission on the first Wednesday of every month, but hey, there is still one more first Wednesday of the month to go before we leave =)
